OnePlus “Game-Changer” Announcement Coming in April

OnePlus is back to their teasing ways this week, this time teasing a “Game Changer” announcement for April.  The original teaser for the new product was given in a post on the OnePlus forums.  There isn’t much information about what is coming, but they do specify that it is NOT a smartwatch or a tablet.  Aside from this we are left with the pictures posted on the forum to guess at what the announcement may be (see below).  It certainly seems from the images that OnePlus is hinting that we may seem some sort of game controller for the OnePlus handset.  At the very least the pictures seem to hint that the company will enter a product category that involves gaming in some way.  My other guess would be an Android TV box of some kind, with an included gaming controller.  This would be an interesting product category to enter considering the big announcement NVIDIA made regarding their SHIELD gaming system earlier this month.

OnePlus just recently began selling their 2014 flagship without an invite every Tuesday to the general public.  I sincerely hope that whatever new product category they decide to enter they at least make the product available to purchase at time of launch.  My biggest issue with their company is that they overhype products which are then difficult for the average consumer to buy.  I would love to give OnePlus more coverage on this site, but only if they start making their products more available, with less hoops to jump through.  No one wants to beg for an invite for the “privilege” to buy a product from them. What do you think the new product category could be?  Would you still buy a product from OnePlus?  Let me know in the comments how you feel!

"I am currently a researcher and Adjunct Professor at Arizona State University and Grand Canyon University. I fell in love with Android with the Nexus One release and realized that it was superior to iOS in all the ways I care about. I still use a Mac (and an iPhone for the camera), but my Apple tech products pale in comparison to my number of Android devices (watches, tablets, and phones). When I’m not rooting/modding one of my many Android phones or doing math/programming, you can find me taking in Phoenix Suns/Arizona Diamondbacks games in downtown Phoenix, and drinking good beer!"
