Xiaomi announced on their forums that they will hold a media event to launch new products on March 31. The event is set to commemorate their 5 year anniversary. The company just unveiled their 40″ TV set dubbed Mi TV 2. What products can we expect to see at the March 31 event? Recent leaks indicate that we will see a smartwatch from Xiaomi, this event may very well give us our first look at that product. From the wording of the announcement it appears we will see multiple product announcements at the event. Xiaomi put up a poll in their forum post asking fans to predict the number of products they will announce.
The smartwatch from Xiaomi, rumored to be called simply Mi Watch, is supposed to feature a circular face with a brushed metal design and advanced blood pressure monitoring using pulse wave recognition. Several manufacturers have gravitated to the circular smartwatch format after the release of the Moto 360. Hopefully Xiaomi will bring a refined design and some new features to the increasingly crowded circular smartwatch category.
After releasing the Mi Note and Mi Note Pro earlier this year Xiaomi should be done announcing flagship phones, so the phone announcements next week should be mostly budget and mid-range offerings. Leaks suggest that one of the devices will be a mid-range device codenamed Ferrari. This device is said to feature a 4.9-inch full-HD display, a 64-bit Snapdragon 615 SoC, 2GB RAM, 12MP camera and 4.8MP front camera. The device was found in benchmarks to run a newer version of MIUI based on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop.
Aside from these offerings, we have to wonder if Xiaomi will throw in a few surprises as well. A 5 year anniversary party seems like a great event to break out a new product category or two. Anyone have a prediction on what else they might have up their sleeves for March 31? We will bring you the breaking announcements next week so keep it locked here to see what is unveiled by the Chinese manufacturer.
