ASUS Zenwatch 2 Will be Unveiled Next Month

ASUS CEO Jerry Shen revealed at an earnings conference that the ASUS Zenwatch 2 will be unveiled next month at the Computex Taipei computer tradeshow. It was reported earlier this month that the Zenwatch 2 would not arrive until 2015, which seemed like a long time to wait for the next model. The CEO said in a statement that this timetable was a misunderstanding and the Zenwatch 2 is still on track for a Q3 2015 launch and retail availability. Focus Taiwan says:

The launch timetable for the smartwatch running on Google Inc.’s Android Wear operating system “remains unchanged,” Asustek CEO Jerry Shen (沈振來) told a press briefing after an earnings conference for investors.

The second-generation ZenWatch will be showcased at Computex Taipei, the world’s second-biggest computer trade show, scheduled for June 2-6, with sales of the device to begin in the early third quarter, Shen said.

Recent rumors suggest that the Zenwatch 2 will have much longer battery life, perhaps as long as 4 days. This would certainly double any current smartwatch on the market, including the Apple Watch. Even with the very large Samsung Gear S I only get two days of moderate use before needing to recharge. Computex Taipei takes place June 2-6, so we won’t need to wait long to see what ASUS has in store. I will be most interested to see if they changed their form factor and whether the price goes up due to more premium materials. Anyone excited about ASUS’ next Android Wear offering?

I fell in love with Android with the Nexus One release and realized that it was superior to iOS in all the ways I care about. I still use a Mac (and an iPhone for the camera), but my Apple tech products pale in comparison to my number of Android devices (watches, tablets, and phones).
