LG Plans to Launch Another Flagship Phone in 2015

We are in the middle of the hype season for the LG G4, releasing in most countries by early June. LG plans to continue aggressively improving their smartphone sales by releasing another flagship phone later in 2015. This certainly isn’t unprecedented as LG has released two flagships in one year as they have done the same thing in 2013 and 2014. Last year we saw the G3 in July and the G Pro 2. According to the director of LG Taiwan’s mobile division, Eason Shao, we should see more of the same this year:

LG will continue its dual-flagship strategy this year with the new G4 and another flagship phone scheduled for release in the second half of 2015, hoping that combined sales of the two devices in Taiwan will increase by 30 percent from last year, Shao said, adding that the hardware specifications for the second phone have not yet been finalized.

Earlier this year LG executives commented that their second flagship in 2015 would have more powerful specs than the G series. This could hint that LG plans to finally compete with Samsung’s Note series on a serious level, and not with the pathetic specs of the recently announced G4 Stylus. I would be psyched if LG took a serious shot at challenging Samsung, the G Pro 2 last year was only released in limited markets so I can’t really consider that a challenge. What would everyone like to see from LG if they decide to challenge Samsung in the extra-large phablet space?

I fell in love with Android with the Nexus One release and realized that it was superior to iOS in all the ways I care about. I still use a Mac (and an iPhone for the camera), but my Apple tech products pale in comparison to my number of Android devices (watches, tablets, and phones). When I’m not rooting/modding one of my many Android phones or doing math/programming, you can find me taking in Phoenix Suns/Arizona Diamondbacks games in downtown Phoenix, and drinking good beer!"
