Google Project Fi Emails Going Out…But Not Invites

When I saw an email from Project Fi hit my inbox 20 minutes ago, I was naturally excited that my invite finally arrived. Alas, Google is trolling everyone by sending out their promised “update email” within a month of users signing up. The email informed me that Project Fi has received a high volume of requests and that they are placing quality of service above quantity of users at this point. To be fair, Google never promised anyone an invite within a month, only that they would update you on the current status of the invite process.

Unfortunately, it looks like those of us that didn’t get in on the beginning wave of invites might be waiting quite awhile. The email targets the middle of Summer for invites to go out to those of us interested. Google does generously offer that we will be able to check our status in the coming weeks, presumably through a dedicated website. I’m not too disappointed since my Nexus 6 was bought off-contract and I’m already running custom ROMs while still getting Verizon’s high-speed LTE data. When I finally do get my invite, I plan to give Fi a try and see if it is a viable option. Anyone else get the update email? Anyone have an invite and already using their Nexus 6 on Fi?

"I am currently a researcher and Adjunct Professor at Arizona State University and Grand Canyon University. I fell in love with Android with the Nexus One release and realized that it was superior to iOS in all the ways I care about. I still use a Mac (and an iPhone for the camera), but my Apple tech products pale in comparison to my number of Android devices (watches, tablets, and phones). When I’m not rooting/modding one of my many Android phones or doing math/programming, you can find me taking in Phoenix Suns/Arizona Diamondbacks games in downtown Phoenix, and drinking good beer!"
