Unlocked 1st gen Moto X Receiving Lollipop Update

Yesterday we got word that Motorola began the soak test for the Verizon 2nd Gen Moto X that will evolve into the 5.1.1 update everyone is eagerly anticipating. Motorola has now confirmed that an update is coming to the 1st gen unlocked Moto X in the form of Android 5.1 (build 222.21.15).

Motorola’s David Schuster revealed, a “full deployment of the 5.1 Android Lollipop upgrade” is coming in the US, Brazil and Rogers (Canada). This update to 5.1 is only for the unlocked model so you are not likely to find the update waiting on your US carrier variant anytime soon. It seems that Motorola is finally starting to update their phones to 5.1, so hopefully the carrier versions won’t be too far behind. The full changelog can be found at the link below! Let us know if your unlocked Moto X received the update and if you notice any performance changes!

I fell in love with Android with the Nexus One release and realized that it was superior to iOS in all the ways I care about. I still use a Mac (and an iPhone for the camera), but my Apple tech products pale in comparison to my number of Android devices (watches, tablets, and phones). When I’m not rooting/modding one of my many Android phones or doing math/programming, you can find me taking in Phoenix Suns/Arizona Diamondbacks games in downtown Phoenix, and drinking good beer!"
