OnePlus 2 Official unveiling coming July 27

OnePlus has finally given us an official date for the OnePlus 2 launch, and that date is July 27. That is a Monday, the time for the event is set for 7 PM PDT, so you probably won’t have anything going on, unless you work late. OnePlus also announced that they won’t be streaming the conventional way (why would they?), they’re going to innovate by streaming the event in virtual reality through special OnePlus cardboard units.  Presumably the cardboard units will work along with some other Android phones, but we’ll have to wait until they are available to know for sure.

Streaming a launch event in VR is actually a pretty cool idea; viewers will get the experience of being at the event even if they are thousands of miles away. If you are interested in picking up one of the OnePlus cardboard units, you should keep an eye on this link. It looks like OnePlus will be giving the units away, plus the cost of shipping. We already know the OnePlus 2 will feature a Snapdragon 810, cost over $330, and feature USB Type-C for the charging/connectivity port. I am getting a bit more excited for this launch, but it is still 5 weeks away; which means OnePlus has lots of time to continue the teasing out of specs. Hopefully OnePlus will also offer a regular live stream like last year, otherwise those of us without cardboard will miss out on the launch event. Who’s ready to do some crazy stuff to get an invite?

I fell in love with Android with the Nexus One release and realized that it was superior to iOS in all the ways I care about. I still use a Mac (and an iPhone for the camera), but my Apple tech products pale in comparison to my number of Android devices (watches, tablets, and phones). When I’m not rooting/modding one of my many Android phones or doing math/programming, you can find me taking in Phoenix Suns/Arizona Diamondbacks games in downtown Phoenix, and drinking good beer!"
