I have been excited about Xiaomi for a while now. Any company that can take on Samsung and actually beat them is a pretty exciting company in my mind. They have to be doing something right. Xiaomi has become the popular handset maker for many Asian countries. I just wish we could get these in the US. I have never actually had the opportunity to try one out. I actually have a Xiaomi RedMi 2 on the way. Hopefully I can get a good perspective on the build quality and overall design of a Xiaomi device once I have one in hand.
I also like the fact that this company has its beginnings in the Android mod community just like Cyanogen. They built their OS on Android and made it look like iOS. They pretty quickly started releasing phones featuring this software, and now they are a tech giant!
The Mi5 is a pretty highly anticipated device. There have been lots of leaks and rumors surrounding it. This device will release in the fall and will feature a fingerprint scanner which is a first for Xiaomi. The biometric scanner looks to compete with Apple’s Touch ID. If it works as good as Samsung’s scanner on the Galaxy S6 then it shall be awesome!
This device should be a power house and could be a game changer for the company. It is said to come with a 5.3″ QHD display, a snapdragon 820 processor, 3030mah battery, 4GB of Ram, 16GB option and 64GB option, a 16mp rear facing camera, and a 6mp camera. It will run the heavily themed MIUI version of Android 5.1.1 at release. The only way to get your hands on this awesome device will be to hit up a Chinese fire sale, or grab one used off ebay which is unfortunate. Maybe we will see them expand to the US within the next year or so.
