Rumor claims Blackberry’s Android slider headed to AT&T

Last month we brought you the news that Blackberry is allegedly developing an Android-powered slider phone for release later in 2015. Those rumors are picking up steam again today as popular leaker Evan Blass (@evleaks) commented on Twitter that device is now codenamed ‘Venice” and will land on the AT&T network in the US.

While evleaks has had a good reputation in the past, he was entirely wrong about the form factor of the HTC One M9 earlier this year. We still haven’t seen any concrete leaks, press renders, or other proof that this Android-powered Blackberry device actually exists. If Blackberry is planning to release an Android powered phone, I still really hope it isn’t a slider, but they do love physical keyboards. I still think it would be prudent for Blackberry to attempt to integrate their security protocols into Android, but they need to do it with hardware people actually want to buy.

Would any of you on AT&T consider an Android powered Blackberry phone?

"I am currently a researcher and Adjunct Professor at Arizona State University and Grand Canyon University. I fell in love with Android with the Nexus One release and realized that it was superior to iOS in all the ways I care about. I still use a Mac (and an iPhone for the camera), but my Apple tech products pale in comparison to my number of Android devices (watches, tablets, and phones). When I’m not rooting/modding one of my many Android phones or doing math/programming, you can find me taking in Phoenix Suns/Arizona Diamondbacks games in downtown Phoenix, and drinking good beer!"
