Xiaomi holding media event on July 16-MI5 Coming?

This past week we told you that Xiaomi is expected the release the MI5 and MI5 Plus later this year. We now have an official media invite from Xiaomi for an announcement on July 16. It is widely expected that Xiaomi will announce the MI5 at this event. The MI5 is expected to pack a Snapdragon 810, 5.2-inch Quad HD display, a 3000 mAh battery, a 16-megapixel rear camera and a 13-megapixel shooter up front. The most exciting part about this phone is the estimated price, approximately 2399 yuan, or about $386 USD.

The invitation doesn’t really that much new information, but it does appear to a side-view silhouette of the MI5. From the invitation we can see the phone appears to have a super thin profile with curved corners and a metal frame. The MI5 Plus is expected to feature the Snapdragon 820, so we don’t expect to see the phablet announced at this media event.

This is just the beginning of the Chinese flagship season, we should have a huge influx of devices from Xiaomi, Huawei, and Meizu later this year. Hopefully many of these devices will become available in Europe and the US. Stay tuned to HOA for more Xiaomi MI5 coverage!

I fell in love with Android with the Nexus One release and realized that it was superior to iOS in all the ways I care about. I still use a Mac (and an iPhone for the camera), but my Apple tech products pale in comparison to my number of Android devices (watches, tablets, and phones). When I’m not rooting/modding one of my many Android phones or doing math/programming, you can find me taking in Phoenix Suns/Arizona Diamondbacks games in downtown Phoenix, and drinking good beer!"
