Specs leak for Samsung’s Gear A Smartwatch

It’s been awhile since we heard any news about Samsung’s upcoming round smartwatch. Today that all changed as SamMobile leaked some reported specs of the Gear A watch, codenamed Orbis. The detailed report claims that Samsung will use Tizen once again for their watch OS, instead of Android Wear. This is a bit disappointing to me as I enjoy the close integration with Google Services on Android Wear watches.

The Gear A will reportedly  feature a completely round Super AMOLED display (360 x 360), Exynos 3472 dual-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz, Mali-400 MP4 GPU, 768MB of RAM, 4GB of storage, GPS, and a 250mAh battery. It will of course also have Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity. In addition to these basic specs, we also expect to see a rotatable bezel used for navigating around the smartwatch UI. Samsung also may introduce a digital crown similar to the one Apple used on the Apple Watch (let the “Samsung copies all Apple’s ideas cries begin).

The Gear A is expected to be released alongside the Note 5 on August 12 in New York. Stay tuned to HOA as we bring you the latest Samsung leaks and rumors!

"I am currently a researcher and Adjunct Professor at Arizona State University and Grand Canyon University. I fell in love with Android with the Nexus One release and realized that it was superior to iOS in all the ways I care about. I still use a Mac (and an iPhone for the camera), but my Apple tech products pale in comparison to my number of Android devices (watches, tablets, and phones). When I’m not rooting/modding one of my many Android phones or doing math/programming, you can find me taking in Phoenix Suns/Arizona Diamondbacks games in downtown Phoenix, and drinking good beer!"
