The summer months are always so slow for tech. Companies hold back releases for the beginning of school and then again for Christmas. It seems like we have not had a meaningful phone announcement in months. There is the Note 5 and the next Nexus device announcements coming later this year, but we actually have three pretty big announcements to look forward to next week!
Motorola will be launching two brand new phones at a live press event July 28th in New York City. We fully expect to see the next gen Moto X and Moto G. There have also been plenty of leaks of a new Verizon Droid phone that is coming so we may see that phone here as well. There won’t be much to surprise us here unless they come up with some really awesome software feature, or really increase the quality of the camera!
OnePlus will be launching the OnePlus 2 next week on July 27th. This will be one of the most unique cell phone press events as it will be the first to be streamed in virtual reality. OnePlus sent out loads of free Google cardboards so you can get the full effect of the event. The OnePlus 2 should be rocking qualcomm snapdragon 810, 4GB of Ram, and USB type C port. The OnePlus 2 is expected to be much cheaper than traditional flagship phones, in fact it is rumored that the device will be sold at cost.
The last event is a mysterious Nokia event which is coming up next Wednesday. The VIP event will be held in Los Angeles. The invitation features some wordplay “Nowhere” and “Now here”. No one knows what Nokia has up their sleeves. It isn’t likely that we will see a phone. I guess we will see soon!
