Moto G rumored to cost $179

The Moto G (2015) is the worst kept secret in the Android smartphone game right now. We’ve already seen full renders, spec lists, Moto Maker options, and an entire promotional video posted by a Brazilian online retailer. I mentioned yesterday that we know pretty much everything about the phone except the price point Motorola is aiming for. The 2nd generation Moto G checked in at $179 and it makes sense that they would want to keep it close to that price. A leak today shows US Cellular’s internal SKU and price for the Moto G, listed as #186978 and with a price of $179.99.

Motorola is wise to price the phone below $200, mainly because they are now competing with budget phones like the ASUS Zenfone 2 and Alcatel Idol 3, right at the $200-$250 price point. If the phone does pack 4G LTE capability and a $179.99 price tag, I think Motorola can sneak into a “super-budget” category and still sell a bunch of these 3rd generation Moto G devices. Now that pricing looks pretty official, there isn’t much to do but wait until the July 28 event and get the full announcement from Motorola. Keep it locked ot HOA news all next week as we bring you all the big Android news from Motorola, OnePlus, and more!

I fell in love with Android with the Nexus One release and realized that it was superior to iOS in all the ways I care about. I still use a Mac (and an iPhone for the camera), but my Apple tech products pale in comparison to my number of Android devices (watches, tablets, and phones). When I’m not rooting/modding one of my many Android phones or doing math/programming, you can find me taking in Phoenix Suns/Arizona Diamondbacks games in downtown Phoenix, and drinking good beer!"
