With Samsung not on the card for IFA this year, we already saw some leaks suggesting Sony will step up to make some big announcements. Today veteran leaked Evan Blass (@evleaks) has posted information on Twitter that suggests Huawei will unveil it’s next phablet in the Ascend Mate series at the annual technology convention in Berlin. The Mate series is Huawei’s phablet line and the previous iterate was also unveiled last year at IFA.
The build of the phone appears to be inspired by the Huawei P8 and the Honor 7, with what looks like an all-metal build making up the body of the phone. We see the signature fingerprint scanner is present on the back of the phone as well as some small Huawei branding at the bottom. Blass mentions that the branding is uncertain at this time. Given that Huawei has begun using the Ascend name for smaller phones, we may see some changes in how the phablet is labelled going forward. Apparently the phone was originally scheduled to feature “force touch” but was later pulled, likely due to the certain lawsuits this would draw from Apple.
The phone will reportedly be announced on September 2, during media day for IFA Berlin. We will keep you updated on any future leaked specs or images of this phone. Stay tuned to HOA news for more news on what to expect at IFA!
