If you preordered a shiny new Note 5 or S6 Edge+ from Verizon, don’t expect to use the new Samsung Pay feature when it rolls out next month. Our very own Shane Starnes did a little investigating this morning on Twitter. We confirmed with Verizon customer service they currently do not plan to support Samsung Pay with any devices on their network. As you can see above, Verizon is conspicuously missing from the list of supported carriers which is what prompted Shane’s question on Twitter. When prompted for help, VZWSupport linked us to the Samsung page showing that Verizon is indeed not compatible with the service.
Verizon does have around a month to change their mind before Samsung Pay if officially launched on September 28 in the US. I’m pretty disappointed as I ordered two Note 5 devices on Verizon from Best Buy; one for my fiancee and one for myself. With this new information I will seriously consider flipping my preorder from Verizon to T-Mobile so I can use Samsung Pay. The key to Samsung Pay’s convenience is the ability to emulate magnetic card swipes for terminals that lack NFC. I hope Verizon changes their mind, but I don’t like the idea of buying a phone and not getting all the features. Anyone preorder on Verizon and upset about losing Samsung Pay compatability? Was anyone planning to use Samsung Pay? Let me know in the comments!
