Nexus Player on sale for $49.99 at Best Buy

Google’s 1st generation Android TV box is currently on sale at Best Buy for $49.99. This may be a sign that we are getting a refresh of the Nexus Player at Google’s September 29 event, or perhaps Google plans to merge the Nexus Player and the 2nd gen Chromecast? If you want to order online you can pick up free shipping as well.

At $49.99, the HDMI set-top box is a good first Android TV device. It is certainly not as powerful as the NVIDIA Shield, but will suffice for Netflix, Pandora, Youtube, and light gaming. I would guess that we will hear more about Android TV at next week’s event, and I think a Nexus Player and Chromecast is merger is more likely than not. Head over to the link below if you are interested in getting into Android TV on the cheap.

"I am currently a researcher and Adjunct Professor at Arizona State University and Grand Canyon University. I fell in love with Android with the Nexus One release and realized that it was superior to iOS in all the ways I care about. I still use a Mac (and an iPhone for the camera), but my Apple tech products pale in comparison to my number of Android devices (watches, tablets, and phones). When I’m not rooting/modding one of my many Android phones or doing math/programming, you can find me taking in Phoenix Suns/Arizona Diamondbacks games in downtown Phoenix, and drinking good beer!"
