The highly anticipated and rumored Droid Turbo 2 is nearly here. Motorola has sent out invites to a press event on October 27th in New York. The invite specifically mentions “Droids”. We are fully expecting to see both the Droid Turbo 2 and Maxx 2 here. The Maxx 2 will more than likely be a rebranded Verizon version of the Moto X Play. If you forgot the Moto X Play is the device with the huge 3160mah battery, and 21mp camera. The phone also includes 2GB of ram and a Snapdragon 615 Octa-core cpu. The Maxx 2 is also expected to be a budget friendly device just like the Moto X Play.
The Droid Turbo 2 is a new phone altogether. Motorola has promised a “shatterproof” display for the new device. This phone is also expected to include a huge 3,760mah battery. I am pretty interested to see exactly what is announced with these two devices on the 27th. I do think the carrier exclusive is an antiquated practice. I think the best possible scenario for consumers is for the manufactures to build all radios into the phone and sell them unlocked. Then you can use each device on any carrier. This seems to have worked well with the Moto X Pure, and the iPhone 6s.
The Droid Turbo 2 may not be entirely a carrier exclusive. It is highly likely that this phone will be rebranded and available on Sprint and other carriers as the Moto X Force. I really don’t see Motorola passing up on selling a phone that could go viral if the shatterproof screen is truly shatterproof. I guess we will see exactly what Motorola has up their sleeves in a few weeks.
