It seems like ASUS has launched quite a few Zenfone models this year, both in the US and internationally. Today they’re back with another one for the collection in the Zenfone 2 Laser. The 16 Gb model of the phone is priced at just $199 and is available starting today from several retailers. Key specs of the device include a 5.5″ Full HD IPS display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor, 3GB of RAM, 13MP rear-facing camera with “laser” auto focus, 3,000 mAh battery, and Android 5.0, though the exact version of Lollipop is not specified. If you want more than 16 GB of on-board storage, you can pay $50 to upgrade to the 32 GB model.
Obviously the phone gets its name from the laser-autofocus found on the rear-camera, but one feature that separates it from the original Zenfone 2 is the removable battery. You will also get dual-SIM capability with LTE available on each of the slots in the phone. Right now listings for the phone are up at Amazon, NewEgg, and B&H Photo, but they do not appear to be fully live yet. The processor has been bumped down slightly from the original Zenfone 2, but you now get 3 GB of RAM to help with any lag from ASUS’ heavy skin on top of Android 5.0. This is a pretty good option if you need a budget device, although we’ve seen many excellent choices this year.
