Motorola has designed a phone that they call “ShatterProof”. Now its one thing for jim bob youtuber to claim that a device is shatterproof or that a screen protector can make your device shatter proof, but generally an OEM like Motorola would not advertise their device as such without thorough testing. For them to have made this claim you know this is serious business! The Droid Turbo 2 uses Moto Shattershield technology which is a series of layers (plastic) to achieve a screen that won’t shatter on impact.
CNN was the first to test out just how shatter proof the Droid Turbo 2 is. They took the phone to the streets and demonstrated various real life drops (the phone being pushed off a table, being dropped on a cobble stone street). They eventually get around to having a thousand pound Clydesdale to stand on the phone. Guess what the screen never shattered! It did have a large dent in it though where that Clydesdale stood on it.
Since then many youtubers have devised various means of testing the shatterproofness of the device. The guys from UnlockRiver strapped the phone to a drone and took it 900ft into the air before dropping it. It landed on the pavement and actually survived. The camera was still filming when they pick up the phone. The screen does not completely shatter, but does take some damage to the top left corner. Overall I would say this phone holds up very well to all kinds of torture. I really hope other manufacturers follow suite. It would be pretty awesome to be able to carry around your $700 device without having to always keep it in a $40 case. Of course Apple will never adopt this tech as they make more money repairing and replacing their super fragile devices.
