Verizon Updating Samsung devices for Samsung Pay+Stagefright Fix

Verizon announced earlier this month they would start rolling out Samsung Pay support to the S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge+, and Note 5 via a software update. Earlier today Droid Life received word that today is the day updates start rolling out to those eligible devices. It appears that several users have already received the update on their S6 and S6 Edge, but there haven’t been any visible reports of S6 Edge+ or Note 5 updates just yet. I just did a quick check of my Note 5 on Verizon and received the sad news that my device has not updates waiting. The unfortunate news for all of us on Big Red is that Samsung’s free accessory with Samsung Pay activation ended on October 11, so it appears all Verizon customers will get the shaft on that deal.

On the bright side, this update appears to bring a StageFright patch in addition to Samsung Pay support. At least your phone will be secure while you mope over losing out on a free wireless charger or case. Be sure to let us know in the comments if you receive an update for your Verizon device soon, I’ll keep this post updated when mine finally appears!

I fell in love with Android with the Nexus One release and realized that it was superior to iOS in all the ways I care about. I still use a Mac (and an iPhone for the camera), but my Apple tech products pale in comparison to my number of Android devices (watches, tablets, and phones).
