LG Issues Media Invites for Mobile World Congress Event

With CES in our rear-view mirror, it’s now time to turn our attention to Mobile World Congress 2016, the upcoming show in Barcelona that is known for showcasing some of the best new smartphones each year. We fully expect that Samsung and HTC will unveil their new flagships at the event, but yesterday LG made some noise by releasing the first official press invites for a MWC media event.

In the past, LG has typically unveiled their new flagship G series phone in late spring, but it is certainly possible that they could bump up the release date to compete directly with Samsung’s Galaxy S7 lineup. The invite itself does not reveal a ton of information, stating only that ” Play begins” February 21, 2016 in Barcelona. That statement is pretty cryptic, and it certainly could mean that the announcement is for something other than a smartphone. Perhaps LG is getting into the VR business? Another strong possibility is that LG will launch a line of media consumption focussed products like headphones, streaming speakers, etc.

I had a great time at CES this year, but the lack of Android heavy-hitters at the show has me pumped up for MWC this year! What do you want to see LG unveil at the show?

I fell in love with Android with the Nexus One release and realized that it was superior to iOS in all the ways I care about. I still use a Mac (and an iPhone for the camera), but my Apple tech products pale in comparison to my number of Android devices (watches, tablets, and phones). When I’m not rooting/modding one of my many Android phones or doing math/programming, you can find me taking in Phoenix Suns/Arizona Diamondbacks games in downtown Phoenix, and drinking good beer!"
