Sony Sends Out Media Invites for MWC 2016

Last week, LG became the first major Android OEM to announce plans to hold a media invite at MWC 2016 in Barcelona. At that event we fully expect that LG will announce the LG G5. We also expect that Samsung will soon announce an event to unveil the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, along with a possible S7 Edge+ device hinted by evleaks. Earlier Today Sony sent out official media invites for their press event at MWC on February 22 at 8:30 AM CET. If you’re in the US, that means you’re going to be staying up late on a Sunday night if you want to watch this event.

What might Sony unveil at this event? It seems unlikely that we will see a new flagship phone, the Xperia Z5 was just unveiled in September last year. On the other hand, Sony has shown in the past they have no problem releasing Xperia Z devices at an accelerated schedule. If we don’t see a flagship phone, we may some mid-tier devices or a new tablet, both of which Sony has shown off at past MWC events. What do you want to see Sony announce? Can Sony event compete with the Samsung and LG spotlight on so bright at MWC? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.

I fell in love with Android with the Nexus One release and realized that it was superior to iOS in all the ways I care about. I still use a Mac (and an iPhone for the camera), but my Apple tech products pale in comparison to my number of Android devices (watches, tablets, and phones). When I’m not rooting/modding one of my many Android phones or doing math/programming, you can find me taking in Phoenix Suns/Arizona Diamondbacks games in downtown Phoenix, and drinking good beer!"
